I'll be producing open studio showings which will lead to an evening length presentation I feel has great promise.

For those of you who have come to my productions of years past, this will be a diversion from what's come to be my signature choices, artistically. I will be incorporating multimedia and vocabulary that is, at this point, uncomfortably out of my range - but it's a growing pain I needed to experience for the subject matter at hand.
(I don't feel comfortable blogging about it, but if you have questions about the work's primary inspiration, I'm forthcoming to discuss.)

Essentially, I've returned from what'd felt like hovering over my life, observing with disbelief that certain experiences had come to pass, and others came to stay.

I'm only being vague and existential so you'll come to the shows. I'll trust it's working.

Let's Cheer Up:

I'm grant writing! Currently, my focus is on a fantastic outreach technology organization called iGotITtoo, who reaches communities in underserved neighborhoods with free technology workshops and other educational offerings. They're contribution is immeasurable, I'm proud to be part of their growth.

I am absolutely for hire, so if you know of any non-profits or independent artists seeking a (relatively) inexpensive option, let me know!

Tracy ... the EP?
YES. It's happening. Songs on tape. From me, to you. This won't be a glossy-flossy production, but it'll exist in good form. I am collaborating with area musicians / songwriters to finally get these g*d damn songs finished.
Life got in the way a bit, but now I'm ready to rock!
Well, after the dentist. Then yes. Rock.
(Ms. Prisco, I'm lookin' your way )

Tracy ... the website? Coming soon to a laptop near you ...
My web presence will be condensed into one, fun-filled adventure called www.tracyeisenberg.com.
(don't click, it's not ready yet :)

First Comes Love ...
In other singing news.... I was given the honor to sing for one of my best friends, Katie Freedman, and her husband for their first dance as a married couple! Their song of choice was By Your Side by Sade. I can't say I didn't get a bit choked up here and there, but overall, it was a wonderful moment to share with them. Seriously. My mouth was gaped for the first 10 minutes. Then I was just giggling for a while. Then I kinda calmed down .. then more giggling. Then a little crying. Then I mighta blacked out for a minute (check with Courtney). Then some really bad singing along*

Then I just enjoyed. I'll admit I had my doubts whether or not he could seamlessly climb that scale after all these years ... but he f'n nailed it. Those rasp-sexy chords have aged gorgeously.

There were a few details I wasn't too gushy to overlook -- I think he needed a few more back-up singers (or me, sober), a pedal steel for his country song (or not keep it in the set) and he took waaay too long to showcase his phenomenal keys player. But overall ... a great performance.

We made our way down to the floor in time for the encores:
<sigh ...="" damn="">sigh...damn. </sigh>is what I have to say about that view.

I tried to get some good pics, but, my feeble digital camera didn't mix well with the ever-shifting stage lights.
Ah well. The woman's movements are decidedly more jewelry box-ballerina, but, it works within the context of the relationship.
The theme song is fitting and very pretty -- but not necessary - I was more moved watching it in silence.

Looking forward to a great holiday -- the whole family will be gathering in Florida. This will be the first time all of the Eisenbergs and extended Eisenbergs will be united in I don't know how long. Cousins Maggie, Henry and Lily will finally all get to play together! A momentous occasion indeed!

I added some pics from the residency, but, just wanted to mention what an eye-opening week it was. I loved working with the students at SUNY Potsdam. It felt fantastic to be in front of a class so eager to learn. They were gracious, talented, attentive and curious -- and the faculty was just as warm and inspired as I remembered them. I can't tell you how nourishing an experience I've had.

Most importantly, it made me realize how much I get out of teaching - it's given me a new, fresh energy I want to keep with me.

As expected, Lori astounded the town with her performance as Isadora Duncan. Many stayed for the post-performance discussion -- we could have talked all night! Listening to feedback and how the work was interpreted by audience members was fascinating. Between the character, performance and dramatic (true) historical setting of the piece .. there was so much to unravel and discover.
We've received an RFP from Lori Belilove, to (potentially) perform in an Isadora celebration next Spring -- will keep you posted on performances here in NY and beyond.

... back by about 7 people's demand

I'm going to be teaching Intermediate Modern dance classes on Monday nights -

This is a fun class! swooped in to the rescue when I needed immediate promotional shots. I am a stage hog, but this has never translated into a love for facing a lense. I prefer (by far) to be behind it - but this was a lot of fun.

In roughly 40 minutes, we found some great moments. Here are a few that I like in particular .... the rest I'll be including on my website, which I plan to have up and running by the end of the year.

While we're on the dance tip ... I am feverishly prepping for the Potsdam residency next month - so soon! Part of the prep is conducting Monday night modern dance classes - free to anyone who has a bit of technique background. The first one was last night and I felt fantastic about it. Overall a smooth class, but received some helpful feedback on how I can improve. Teaching a proper technique class is a far cry from running a rehearsal - but I'm confident I'll get back into that flow in time.

If you know anyone who may be interested. . . classes are Mondays, 7:30 - 9 at Gus Solomons Studios, 19th and Broadway NYC. There will be one on September 27th and Oct. 4th for certain -- Thereafter I will decide if and when I'll have a few more --

<div But for one whole week this Fall, I will be a resident guest teaching artist at SUNY Potsdam!

Lori Russo, the actress I've long been working with on the one woman play I choreographed, Love, Isadora will be performing this work and leading courses in the drama department.

Me, I'll be with the dance students, given free reign to teach original choreography while taking over their technique classes. Oh, how I will run them ragged. Oh, the floorwork I have planned .. those kids won't know what hit 'em!

I will also (as I'd mentioned previously) have to lead a lecture / Q&A session. It's difficult to narrow down which aspects of my life are "lecture-worthy" - the first things that keep coming to mind are "save money. no, i mean seriously. save money now." and "go to your performance and production courses! you do need to know about dimmer packs and light focusing!" -- (to name a few)
I can only hope they understand that all journeys are unique. I'm no fortune teller.

This is a project we've been discussing on and off for a few years - I'm so happy to have it finally be a reality. I adore the department, the town, the breathtaking surroundings. It's been far too long since I've seen the Adirondacks in all their October glory. I hold the time I studied there very close to my heart... and what better reason could there be to return! For the dance!

... and in obnoxiously proud aunt news ...

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; I did it. I cut the chord.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, leaving home. That’s what it feels like when you’ve lived in the same place you did as a kid, a mere 23 years old. It seemed like such an adult step back then - moving to the city, finding roommates, getting a job, paying an electric bill for the first time…

I’d found my way to Bay Ridge when I was suddenly ousted from my apartment in Washington Heights (long story for another time). So that I wouldn’t have to commute to my li’l desk job from Poughkeepsie, my good friends Mary and Mark benevolently let me crash on their living room futon here in the neighborhood. In that month’s time or so, I fell in love with the neighborhood. It had the perfect blend of suburbia and accessibility; deep roots, multi-generational households, family owned businesses … great food. There is an utter lack of pretension or longing to be current with urban trends - I was/am often the hippest gal on the block - (no. really.)

Like most, I found my apartment by way of Craigslist - suspiciously cheap for being in the center of all the 86th St. action, I had my doubts. Turns out, it truly was a lucky find. 3 ladies of about the same age were here to greet me. I remember feeling so instantly cozy with my initial family of girls. Parties, drama, laughter, tension, friendship … this was 516.

As roommates and sleeping quarters rotated over time, the dynamics shifted further from what had made my life here a comfort --- drifting more toward a place where I simply hung my hat maybe a little too far from the city. Having been financially dependent on the relatively low rent, I stuck around until I had more means and stability to make a real move. I'd also been attached to the convenience of Frank living nearby, so late-night recording sessions weren't an issue ... and then he abandoned ship for Staten Island.

And so, with all signs pointed toward "it's time", the day has come and off I go.

I found an adorable (albeit much smaller:) apartment in one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York - Park Slope, Brooklyn. Not exactly an enormous leap (an 81 block leap north, to be precise), but certain to be an adjustment -- one that I’m equally apprehensive and thrilled about. The swift commute alone just may send me into shock (related, I anticipate more frequent, less travel-weary visitors)

I have a month to make the transition - and I don’t know where to begin on the accumulation of 7 years here in this once home. I suppose I’ll begin with boxes and bags and lots of them ... doing my best to bat away the range of emotional triggers from the past.

I’ll soon no longer be the coolest kid on the block (that title belongs to Maggie Gyllenhaal) but I trust I’ll find a little pocket to squirm and settle into - calling this apartment and neighborhood a place I belong before long.

And I can’t WAIT to be all up in that park.

All in all, a positive change … I look forward to the fresh view.

Helpless? At the risk of sounding a bit arrogant, I have a life history of being a natural - dancing, singing, writing ... all skills I proved to possess innately at a young age - skipping the beginner phase before I’d even begun. I’ve still done the work and continue to educate myself - but it’s long been from a more advanced place I’ve sought progression.

To put it more simply … when I suck at something, I don’t like to do it. I own this flaw entirely. But in recent months, I decided enough was e-f’ing-nough.

So I’ve begun guitar lessons. Recruitment began a few weeks ago for a brave soul to tackle the monster alongside me. The search ended at the doorstep of my very good friend, Ben “Cartel” Rosenthal (of The Benjamin Cartel and indy duo KaiserCartel) With great enthusiasm, he took me under his (talented, funny, positive) wing.

And, well … I suck. The “songs” I play are virtually unrecognizable. My fingers hurt. There are so many dissonant vibrations, it sounds like I’ve taken up the Sitar. I have to climb itsy-bitsy-spider style to each chord. I have almost zero natural talent for this fickle beast of an instrument. But I’ve managed to unearth a surge of motivation to get better and remain disciplined - and it’s really exciting. I’m (finally) very much okay with having to really work and be patient with the journey being a slow one.

Ben is an excellent teacher. I should plug him here, in case any of my 5 readers are considering private lessons. He has the patience of a saint, he’s your biggest fan, and the “pick an easy song and we’ll learn it” approach works much better for me than getting bombarded with scale after chord after scale. It’s important to have context you can connect to. The repertoire will come over time, there’s no plan to become a master of music theory inside of a month or two.

Our song of choice to kick things off was “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” a.k.a. C--F--C--F--D--F--C! My favorite is D, in case you were wondering. (I haven’t exactly put Mr. Richards to shame, but we’re gettin' there …)

The next step was to get my clunky, long unloved Cort guitar in more playable condition. I was a little apprehensive of getting up-sold with repairs I didn’t really need, but an additional plug goes out to the fellas at Street Sounds in Bay Ridge for only doing what was necessary for my level of playing.
They did a beautiful job adjusting the action, re-stringing with lighter, more finger-friendly strings and making it all shiny and pretty. Thanks Rocky!

My goals here are to a) become a better student ;) and b) build a stronger foundation for my relatively new place in music; this goes for writing and especially for singing. It feels increasingly ridiculous not to know what notes are coming out of my mouth, or how to find harmonies other than by ear-guessing.

So there’s no plan to take over for Frank on lead … but I can’t say it’s not a fun rock n’ roll fantasy. :)

News (and more news)

hi friends -- and happy SPRING!

Lots and lots to tell -- here goes ...

New … career direction

First news to share is that I'm resigning my post at the real estate agency, having been offered a full time position as a marketing assistant. I’ll be working closely with a few different departments of an investment company - assisting with the content/distribution of various marketing efforts - (so if anyone knows how to use InDesign .. :) it’s going to be a challenging and I no doubt rewarding position - wish me luck!

In the end, I made some deals (thank you, thank you) and took my pound of flesh from the mania that is NYC real estate. Finally able now to start a Tracy Goes Back to School fund, which I plan to invest as soon as I've narrowed down to a program I can both finance and feel fits the bill for making more possible a backstage career in the arts. (Will also of course have to fit in with a full time job.)If you have recommendations or know people who have gone through a non-profit and/or arts administration program they felt was successful and worthwhile, I'd love some advice on making this choice.

Though I'm moving on, I have to say that the past year has been the crash course in initiative I probably needed. Outside of the work, I regularly find myself being more clear and direct about the things I need and want; from finally getting my landlord to fix up the apartment (my new windows are beautiful!), to day-to-day little snags I would have more typically let slide, this sink or swim nature of a living served me well to this end - a quality I don't doubt made me a more competitive candidate for the position I‘m about to begin. I’m going to keep my license active and stay informed of the market - it’s a fascinating world I remain intrigued by.

(Learning to Fly blares from the Ipod shuffle - both apropos and awesome godilovethissong)

New … apartment.

And speaking of the market, I’m seeking a long overdue change of address - will do so by the summer. I'm aiming to remain in my beloved Brooklyn, but keeping an open mind. Stay tuned.

New … teaching opportunities.

Put said initiative to work and submitted a proposal to be a guest teaching artist at SUNY Potsdam -- it’s looking good for me to bring Lori Russo and our project Love, Isadora to the college stage in the Fall. We would combine the performance with taking over the dance and drama courses for the week. The idea of seeing my work on 30 or so students at once is very exciting.
I’d also be speaking to the department about my artistic endeavors here in New York since graduation. If you can tell me where, by the grace of God, to even begin on that lecture -- I’m all ears.

Haven’t gotten official word of our acceptance, but I’m feeling confident we will make this happen. I know, I shouldn’t jinx it!

All levels welcome -- come dance!

I’m launching a weekly beginner modern dance class, beginning in April, latest May --adult beginner is my favorite level to teach and I’m working on a curriculum that I hope to be inspirational.
Still need a few more students to commit so I can go ahead and secure the time and place -- so far, it’s down to Wednesday or Thursday evenings at Mary Seidman Studios(again, stay tuned.)

New … Old.

The new(ish)bassist of The Possessions (Rob Carpenter) is also a stellar sound technician, working diligently on re-mixing old tracks from previous albums of ours. So far, the improvements are just astounding. Frank and I are re-recording a bunch of tracks, both vocals and other elements of the arrangements -- giving the songs a chance to shine in the ways they are meant to.
Selfishly, I’m most excited to redeem some less-than-pro vocal performances. I’m stronger and more comfortable with the recording process now - nice to get another go at it ;)

There is much more I'm tempted to get into, but I'm going to pause the newsfeed for now ...

On a side note, I want to mention a fun experience I had last night -
Went to see drummer Dave's friends perform a rootsy acoustic set at The Loving Cup in W'burg- I regret I don't know his last name, but Dave's friend Chris (drummer for The London Souls) is a truly gifted musician who makes "guy with a guitar" a listening experience during which you're not tempted to groove your head a bit and then return to your book. The range in genre, vocals and guitar chops keeps you in there. No small feat.

Dave wound up taking over on drums throughout the sets, which seemed to open the floodgates for willing musicians to jump on tamb, cowbell, sit in on piano or even sing harmonies, which I did myself to Poor Elijah -- one of my favorite songs, one that I've been wanting to cover.
It was an unexpected, purely fun and very warm musical experience - the way it oughta be.

Thanks for reading. More to come very soon - promise!

March 19th - Frank & Tracy - Charity Performance for The Jared Dane Scotto Foundation

Frank and I will take the stage this Friday, in a special event honoring beloved son, friend and athlete Jared Dane Scotto.

Jared passed away from Epithelioid Sarcoma in December, after a 2 year battle.
His family has organized a foundation in his name, both to raise funding for research, and award scholarships to students in athletics and science.

This wonderful evening of music, comedy and other great performance will take place at Illusions Night Club - 3995 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, NY

Frank and I will go on around 7pm. I'll be singing too!

Lemme 'splain.

Todd and Vic have designed a production showcasing choreography to the music of friends who will be performing throughout the evening. I was thrilled to be asked to sing a few Possessions songs ---

Thrilled morphed into fear when I heard the words "a capella" but, "Always the Same" sounds perfectly eery as a backdrop to a powerful solo about addiction. I hadn't before realized these lyrics could translate to experiences other than a stubborn love entanglement. In many ways, I like it better in this context. It feels like a new song again.

Another dance piece will feature Frank and I playing a down-scaled piano version of "Love Me, You Don't", during which cast members will perform improvised phrases. I'm not sure what to expect, but having this conversation with dancers, a call and response to my music performance is a first I'm looking forward to.

The music I'll be dancing to (along with lovely Laura Spaziani & Jen Painter) is by the more electronic and layered Jiboo. Vic's choreography has gone in a fascinating direction since we last worked together - I've been giddy to learn more phrases from week to week.
Sore lumbar? You bet. But totally worth it.

Todd and Vic will be performing together to the moody-broody-yummy indy band, Sea of Trees. This is a heartbreaking duet about codependence and lost transitions. This work was previewed recently for Spoke the Hub's "Winter Follies" -- the crowd devoured it.

That's all you get! Whether it be the annual Eisenberg NYC holiday dinner ("Dad, finally you get to see the big city!" -- he's been commuting here for 35 yrs), or Brandon's bizarrely accurate sound effects for Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmas Time", we typically leave no stone unturned, memory-wise.

In recent years, with both my brothers/sister-in-law elsewhere in the country, it's no longer guaranteed that we'll all be together during the holidays. Last year was the first in several we were able to swing it. While sadly, neither my brothers, nor my niece / coming nephew will be 'round this time, I look forward to us joining again in the early new year -- to welcome baby Henry!

Change is ever-present, commanding you not take time with loved ones for granted... of this, I am increasingly aware. And I will be reflecting on that most of all in the coming 5.

Ok ... this entry is far more corny than planned. We booked Pianos for the release party - what a blast! In true LES venue form, we took the stage a good hour and a half later than scheduled, but 'twas well worth the wait, we were told.

Ocean Blue is a step up for Frank as a songwriter/producer, and myself as a vocalist. I have to say, we really tightened up our game. The lion's share of the work, as always, was on Frank's plate - but in my own working world, I burst through so many barriers that had held me back on Carousel. The honesty in our partnership intensified and the product resulting in that process shines much brighter. <here's where I would provide a link to cdbaby so that you may procure yourself a copy - but technical difficulties have halted our presence there temporarily -- stay tuned -- in the mean time, I'm happy to send a free copy>

Currently, as Papa Frank settles into a new house on an Island called Staten, we're texting lyrics back and forth, singing choruses into voicemail and plotting our next moves when we're able to get working together again. I am so excited for the house studio in which we'll next record!

The lyrics I'm writing are for a song I want to expand and contract rapidly. I'm sort of picturing it as Dizzy Gillespie's cheeks. What in part influences this song is the rock music I listened to having lived /shared a car with 2 older brothers / rock afficionados. Many of these bands employed a loud-quiet-loud dynamic. Nirvana, The Pixies, Jawbreaker, etc. . have been best known to work with this structure - but it's also evident in many of the soul and funk compositions I listen to most days. Even in Delaney and Bonnie's, "I'm Not Your Lover .. " - the way the choir presence pops and fades... it's less drastic than in rock form - but the emotional effect on the listener, I believe is similar.

The line I keep returning to in the quiet is "If I Had it My Way. . "
... maybe it's about life, about love .. or perhaps a dissatisfying experience at Burger King. You'll just have to wait and listen.

'night.

ch-ch-ch-ch

At long last, I've decided to get writing again. Promises promises, I know :)

So. . what's up.

Changes made and changes on the horizon, as ever. 2009, I have to tell you, has been a hell of a ride. I'll be carrying its bags to the car with unbridled enthusiasm come December's end. This is certainly not to say there haven't been wonderful times and learning experiences -- I just look forward to finding the levity and light that's still proving to be a bit elusive.

So. . how to find.

I returned to a dance solo I'd begun working on mid-summer. It's likely to be the most clearly emotional work I've done in years -
Having said goodbye to most of my beloved cast of dancers, (babies, grad school, etc. . ) I'm entirely focused on my own body as the performer. Typically, my solos have served more as a cameo-type presence between group pieces - which frankly I enjoy more - but with a cast of one hired, moi, I'm to tackle the challenge.

My initial inspiration several months ago was a need to exhume feelings I was having over the end of an era (read: break-up, a bit of self-prescribed movement therapy) but as I kept digging into what there was to be addressed, I discovered that there was something much deeper and broader to unearth. This was about repetition, patterns, cycles - positive and negative forces coarsing through my body. The patterns I focused on clearly identified themselves within other territories of my life.

Scholars of my work (ha) will remember that I've worked with concepts similar to these before, but in a more edgy and agressive form. I won't give away too many secrets (my publicist hovers as I type)- but it's taking form as an exploration in plain pedestrian and abstract movement motifs.

There are a number of work in progress series happening where I'll be showing it's development - will certainly keep you up to date on those events.

So .. what else.

Saw a very groovy photography exhibit at Aperture Gallery -- www.aperture.org
Michael Wolf -- you'll be entranced.

Next blog will be a musical one ... for now, it's bedtime.

thank you for reading.
t.

few setbacks .. but still movin'

Hey ...

SO .. those of you who have marked your calendars ... the February 28th launch date for Ready or Not has been postponed.

We fought it, but in the face of choreographer cancellations and difficulties with the our scheduled time in the space, we felt it best to push it back. (i know, i am very considerate)

my parents had a house fire about 2 years ago, a house that held all those words. the reality of nearly losing my parents trumped mourning, what was comparatively, just a lot of old notebooks - but every once in a while i wonder what the hell i was talking about so much. certainly they were not words to rival those of Shakespeare; more like current boy drama, a little creative fiction, environment observations and dance diagrams - but it was a me i'd like to reconnect to, however inane a lot of those words may have been.

the obvious difference between this tracyblog and the old word habit is that i am not talking to some abstract, welcoming entity with an endless attention span. i am actually talking to someone right now. maybe even 2 people! it's a little hard to write without peeking through the potential readers' eyes, but i will take a tip from micol ostow and write through that consciousness.

it's a performance. i like those. we'll get to more of those shortly.

new year's reservations. ..

2009, for me decidedly, is the year of finding that balance of focused action with free expression - likely the biggest challenge i face as a person and as an artist. the gift of curiosity is indeed, delivered left-handed. i am perpetually in that mouse-in-a-maze state of navigating toward solid, tangible reward.

performing artists, at least in my experience, experience rather drastic highs and lows. you're tempted enough to indulge in a more momentary "reward" - visceral, positive, pure ... the least complicated your life gets. and then, the drop. i see the drop, i hear the drop, i feel the drop. those who manage to keep up their stage presence probably bypass that state - but when you're bogged down in the logistics of life between sets - job-finding, bills, relationships, (i have to update my blog!) and even the inevitable offstage creative process, however otherwise fulfilling, can cuff you to the drop. i don't want to get depressing, but writing about it helps levitate it all a little.

so, since a career in neurology does not hold my interest much (beg as they might .. ) i am refreshing my approach toward working, really working, toward bridging those highs and no longer romanticize the lows - the more i talk about them the more they feel adolescent and less authentically who i want to be today. (so nothing against adolescents, i just don't happen to be one.)

so, as promised ... focus. action. expression.

READY OR NOT!

(this is my new choreography venture with my dancer-in-crime Laura Spaziani -- below is the official announcement - if you know any choreographers seeking to show new work, send them this way! the inaugural performance will be february 28th)

Ready or Not is a choreography performance series that sets the stage and provides a network for artists developing new work.

Each Ready or Not production will showcase the work of choreographers (of various styles and disciplines) inspired by a common theme. Themes will be pre-determined by Ready or Not creators, Tracy Eisenberg and Laura Spaziani.

Participating choreographers are encouraged to return to more than one showing, as part of the Ready or Not mission is to build a community and support system for artists navigating the creative process.

In addition to feedback opportunities at Ready or Not productions, Eisenberg and Spaziani will host several open online forums at popular sites such as Blogspot, Facebook and Myspace. These pages will provide pertinent show information and a forum for performers, spectators and other online participants to communicate through and within the growing Ready or Not network.

The range of topic in these discussions can be anything from continued feedback on a previous show, to postings from a Ready or Not choreographer calling for a new live drummer.

The process for choreographers to join Ready or Not is a brief application calling for a basic description of their work and background.

The first Ready or Not production will take place February 28th at The Stables in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

THE POSSESSIONS!

New album February/March 2008 --- working title is Ocean Blue. so far, it is shaping up to be a more roots blues venture with a splash of good ol' pop you can dance to.

i am so excited for this - frank and i are booking shows locally to test out some of the new material (including sunday February 15th at tea lounge, park slope)

more shows / details very soon ...

opening night ...

it can drive you wild, but the nerves and anticipation of an opening show night is positively intoxicating.

can't wait to share all of this with all of you.

xo t

back & forth: an evening of choreography by tracy eisenberg

October 9th and 10th, 2008 8pm

This evening-length event is the culmination of several months development, a gazillion rehearsal hours and the renovation / expansion of previously performed repertory (as ever, I bring in part, the "This Old Dance" element to the stage)

Below is a more elaborate description of what is to come, but I wanted to let you know less formally that these few nights are very important to me - and I would be so happy to have you all be there.

Frank Schiazza from my band The Possessions (www.myspace.com/thepossessionsnyc) will be part of the performance as a live guitarist. He has composed some amazing music for the production - sure to add a little grit and soul as only Schiazza can -

---

Tracy Eisenberg presents : back & forth: an evening of choreography by tracy eisenberg :
* featuring live music by Frank Schiazza
THURSDAY OCTOBER 9TH AND FRIDAY OCTOBER 10TH, 8PM
TRISKELION ARTS: 118 NORTH 11TH ST. BROOKLYN, NY
Tickets: $13 with reservation; $15 at the door (Free to Press)

Reservations: Call 845 401 9115, or e-mail tracy.eisenberg@gmail.com

back & forth is a contemporary dance production of both debut and renovated repertory by Tracy Eisenberg. The evening will be a stunning showcase of Eisenberg’s choreographic range; from the aesthetically beautiful to the contorted and broken, often overlapping seamlessly in energetic, emotional expressions. One returning favorite is the newly expanded “For A Good Cause”; an electric, whirlwind three sectioned dance beginning with a moody introductory solo (performed by Hannah Jean Lundeen) and Taylor-esque phrase-play in its following trio and duet. Eisenberg’s work in this series is a reflection of her years of classical technique training blended with an eye for grounded movement and space design.

Live guitar performance by composer, musician and recording artist Frank Schiazza will provide an added soulful dimension to three of Eisenberg’s debut dances. Schiazza will join “back & forth”, a 4 movement solo performed in 2 parts by Eisenberg herself, the aggressive and emotional duet to the blues of “Driftin” and the haunting untitled solo performed by Todd Henry, who through popped, puppet-like movements portrays the state of a man in the throes of mind-body disconnection and his journey back to its harmony. Schiazza’s live guitar will be blended in and out of recorded music of varied genres, enhancing cohesion and narrative continuity to the tone of each piece.

Since 2003, Eisenberg’s choreography has been enjoyed in various theaters including WAX, La Tea, Studio 111, Merce Cunningham, Galapagos Art Space, among others in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. This will be her second production at Triskelion Arts; her first production here was in March 2005, when The Washing Machine premiered with her former collaborative dance company, Dialogue Dance Collective. The Washing Machine was attended by four consecutive sold-out audiences and the subject of a featured arts article in the entertainment guide Courier Life 24/7: Zraicke, Karen “Intriguing Washing Machine Set to Spin” Courier Life 24/7 (2005).

Eisenberg’s choreography was recently premiered on the West Coast, when Love, Isadora, a one-woman play by renowned playwright Rick Foster (based on the life of Isadora Duncan) hit The California Stage in Sacramento for a successful, critically acclaimed five-week run. Love, Isadora is a collaboration of Foster, actress Lori Russo, Drama Desk Award nominee Janis Stevens (Director) and Eisenberg (Choreographer). In August 2008, Love, Isadora was nominated for 3 Elly Awards.

For more information on Tracy Eisenberg, or to reserve tickets for back & forth, please contact Tracy Eisenberg at tracy.eisenberg@gmail.com
